The MK6+ Aluminum Thermal Core is an update on the design of our rugged MK5 Steel Thermal core. It represents our latest research and development in our quest to perfect the art of plastics extrusion for 3D Printing.
The MK6+ Aluminum Thermal Core is custom machined for us out of a solid block of aluminum, and mounts to your extruder exactly the same way the MK5 Thermal Core did. That's where the similarities end! The Aluminum Thermal core now accepts our 12v Cartridge Heater, which is a tiny powerhouse of a heater and replaces the 5ohm Resistors that were used to heat the MK5 Plastruder and MK6 StepStruder® first edition.
Newly added is a smooth-bore hole that the cartridge heater slides in, and locks into place. Then you can mount your MakerBot standard nozzle varieties, hardware, and type-K Thermocouple, and off you go! Just connect the cartridge heater to your Safety Cutoff Kit, and you are off and running with faster warm up times, smoother heat transmission, and a smaller, sleeker Extruder.
This Aluminum Thermal core has been specially designed to work well with our new 1.75mm filament stock, MK6 Nozzles, Generation 4 Extruder Controller and Type K Thermocouple. It's got what you need to have the most updated MakerBot® Extruder.

If you are planning to use a cartridge heater with your MakerBot®,
we require the use of the MakerBot® Safety Cutoff Kit. This cutoff switch is intended to prevent your extruder from overheating by switching off power to the heater before it gets dangerously hot.
It's important to be safe with this equipment, and so
do not run a MakerBot® with a cartridge heater without the
Safety Cutoff Kit.You may wish to add a pack of Anti-seize Compound when assembling your hot end. It's available
